Routine blood tests to determine overall health or the presence of disease states include obtaining peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) counts. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells are blood cells that have a round nucleus. These are different from other bloods cells, such as red blood cells and platelets that do not contain nuclei and neutrophils that have multi-lobed nuclei.
