Use of nanothin and highly porous membranes enables the efficient generation of homogenous, ECM-preserved, highly viable, and transfer-printable cardiac sheets from stem cells.

Pluripotent stem cells are renowned for their ability to divide indefinitely and their capacity to differentiate into many of the tissues of the body, raising the possibility that they may provide an unlimited source of cells for tissue replacement. However, development of a functional tissue is not a simple matter, since standard culture systems do not recapitulate a cell’s natural environment. Culture environments that encompass the molecular, structural, and physical factors regulating differentiation are necessary to achieve the full potential of stem cells.
